Like many cities in the Midlands and North of England, Nottingham has a rich history when it comes to factory work.
Factories in the city have produced all kinds of things over the years, from cigarettes to textiles.
While many would associate Nottingham with the production of John Player cigarettes and Raleigh bicycles, in truth the city’s links to industry are far more complex.
During the First World War, the National Shell Filling Factory in Chilwell filled some 19 million shells with high explosives.
Since the late 19th century, meanwhile, the famous Gunn and Moore factory has produced world-renowned cricket equipment.
