I’m a fashion editor and these are the 4 River Island autumn pieces I’d buy

Amy Jackson Westwick has curated autumn-ready pieces for River Island, and there are some seriously good finds in the mix. If there’s one thing I’m looking for from my autumn wardrobe, it’s pieces that feel polished without requiring too much thought. Thankfully, the new River Island x Amy Jackson Westwick Edit seems to have understood the assignment.

The new collection brings together pieces designed around the kind of wardrobe staples that can carry you through the season, with laidback tailoring, cropped jackets, faux fur and PU leather featuring heavily throughout.

The actress and model, married Gossip Girl actor Ed Westwick in 2024, with the couple welcoming their son Oscar the following year. Her latest River Island edit feels very much centred around confident dressing, with pieces that can be mixed and matched together.

As a fashion editor, I’ve been through the new collection and picked out the four pieces that have made the biggest impression on me.

A Black Sleeveless Belted Midi Dress £59 is hardly groundbreaking, but the right one can be one of the hardest-working pieces in your wardrobe. This particular style has a belted waist and sleeveless cut, giving it a smart, streamlined shape that looks considerably more expensive than its price tag. I’d wear it with boots and a jacket now, then switch to heels for an evening look.

I love a good jacket when autumn arrives, and this Brown Faux Leather Washed Funnel Neck Jacket £64 immediately caught my eye. The washed finish gives it a more relaxed feel, while the funnel neck adds something a little more considered than your standard leather jacket. The brown shade is also an easy alternative to black and works particularly well with denim, cream and neutral shades.

Tailoring doesn't have to mean formal, and the Brown Pleated Cuff Cropped Blazer £59 is a good example. The pleated cuffs give it a little more interest than a traditional blazer, while the shorter shape makes it easy to style with everything from tailored trousers to jeans.

For work, I’d pair it with trousers and a simple top. For the weekend, it could completely change the look of a pair of jeans and a T-shirt.

I don't do heels often, but these Black Slingback Court Heels £39 immediately made my shortlist. The classic shape gets a more modern feel from the slingback design, and they look incredibly chic.

The collection as a whole has plenty to choose from, but these four are the pieces I’d be most tempted to add to my own autumn wardrobe.
