Storm Éowyn has caused significant disruptions across Nottinghamshire, leading to the cancellation of markets and tram services, while East Midlands Railway warns of travel delays amid high winds and fallen trees.

In Nottinghamshire, Friday markets have had to be cancelled in towns including Hucknall, Sutton-in-Ashfield and Worksop.

Bosses at East Midlands Railway (EMR) said the firm was committed to running a full service but urged travellers to check before travelling as the windy weather continues.

Wollaton Hall and Nottingham Castle are set to open as usual but timings may be delayed.

Trees on the railway are causing disruption on EMR's Liverpool to Nottingham and Norwich route.

East Midlands Rail has said "Disruption continues on our Liverpool/Nottingham/Norwich route" due to trees on the line between Sheffield and Stockport and between Manchester Oxford Road and Warrington Central.

“Tickets purchased with EMR can be used at no extra cost on TransPennine Express and Northern services between Sheffield and Liverpool Lime Street.”

The operator advises customers to check their journey before travelling.

Some Nottingham tram services are cancelled.

Birmingham Airport has issued travel advice for those travelling over the weekend as Storm Eowyn threatens to disrupt travel across the Midlands and the wider UK.

An yellow weather warning for wind is in place for Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire and the East Midlands 23:59pm on Thursday for 24-hours.

The airport has said that while they anticipate that they will 'operate as normal' during the peak of the storm, they recommend passengers check ahead with their airlines before arriving for their flights.

Flights from Birmingham to Scotland and Ireland were cancelled this morning with a rare red weather warning in place for parts of the UK. Ryanair, Aer Lingus, Loganair and Easyjet fly the affected routes from BHX to Dublin, Aberdeen, Belfast and Glasgow.

A Birmingham Airport spokesperson said: "Currently, as there is a yellow Met Office wind warning for us, we anticipate that Birmingham Airport will operate as normal.

"As always, passengers should check with their airlines."

According to The Met Office, Storm Éowyn is expected to bring very strong winds and widespread disruption on Friday.
