UK airports reopen after disruption caused by heavy snowfall overnight

Two UK airports faced overnight disruption due to heavy snowfall.

Birmingham Airport faced a challenging night as snow accumulation forced its closure for two hours.

In the early hours of Sunday, the airport announced, “BHX is currently closed for a minimum of two hours for snow clearing and safety reasons.” However, resilience teams worked through the night to clear runways, and operations began resuming.

Despite the reopening, the airport warned passengers to allow additional time for travel. In a later update, they reassured travellers, “The start-up to the schedule remains business as usual, but please check with your airline for the latest flight information.”

Similarly, Bristol Airport reopened late last night after being closed due to the snow. However, the effects of the weather continued into Sunday morning.

Many flights from Bristol were diverted to Birmingham due to the weather.

In a statement, Bristol Airport acknowledged the impact on flight schedules: “There may be delays on Sunday morning as some aircraft are out of position. We’re sorry for the inconvenience caused.” Passengers were urged to check directly with airlines for updates.

Across both airports, passengers faced delays.
