High-street beauty chain The Body Shop is set to appoint administrators later this week, placing hundreds of stores across the UK at risk.

The Body Shop was bought by private equity firm Aurelius just six weeks before Christmas, but it’s understood that trading over the festive period was weak.

According to the BBC, the chain does not have enough working capital to continue.

With administrators set to be appointed within days, the future of Nottingham’s Body Shop store has been cast into doubt.

The Bridlesmith Gate store is one of more than 200 Body Shop outlets across the UK.

Founded by Dame Anita Roddick in 1976, The Body Shop became well-known for its ethical trading ethos and refusal to test beauty products on animals.

According to its website, The Body Shop employs 10,000 people and operates 3,000 stores in 70 countries.
