Wherever you go in the UK, there will always be a number of ghost stories attached to the place you’re visiting.

It’s often the case that rural locations are linked to more spooky tales than urban areas.

Given that some villages have remained practically unchanged for centuries, ghost stories can become ingrained in these communities, passed down from generation to generation.

With so many isolated villages dotted around Nottinghamshire, it’s unsurprising that the county has its fair share of spine-chilling ghost stories that’ll probably leave you sleeping with the light on.

One such paranormal hotspot is said to be Rolleston train station, just west of Newark.

A stop on the Nottingham to Lincoln line, the station serves its rural community with several daily EMR services.

At face value, the station looks just like hundreds of others across the country.

As unassuming as it may seem, the station has attracted scores of paranormal sightings over the past few decades.

One of the station’s most infamous ghosts is said to be the spirit of a man who haunts the adjacent level crossing.

It’s thought that the man was killed many years ago when his lorry was struck by a train on the level crossing.

The station’s other resident ghost is said to be a man who appears on the platform holding a newspaper.

Unlike the lorry driver, it’s unknown why this man haunts the area, but his spirit has been seen by passengers before quickly vanishing.

Perhaps most chillingly are reports of phantom steam trains stopping at the station.

Passengers waiting for their train to arrive have even reported smelling coal and hearing a steam train’s whistle, only for no locomotive to be in sight.
