The trade magazine's competition, now in its 12th year, scores businesses on food quality, premises cleanliness, staff expertise, value for money, ease of ordering, and social media presence.

Takeaways had to obtain an average score of 95.5% or more to be named in the top 50, with Angells Fisheries scoring a 98% satisfaction rating.

The takeaway has an average TripAdvisor rating of 4.5/5 stars and was also named in last year’s Fry Awards.

Its menu offers many of the classic chip shop favourites alongside some more unusual offerings, such as a battered Mars Bar and portion of cockles.

Reece Head, organiser of the Fry Awards, added: “Despite the formidable challenges posed by inflationary pressures that have affected every aspect of the industry, these remarkable establishments continue to deliver top-quality fish and chips using the finest ingredients.

“Their dedication extends beyond the plate, as they invest in cutting-edge equipment to facilitate seamless and swift transactions, coupled with rigorous training in customer service.

“Uncompromising in their standards, they are truly the best in the business and deserve their recognition."
