The current waiting time for emergency departments at NUH, Queen's Medical Centre is more than four hours.
In a post on the NUH social media, the Trust urged people to "only call 999 for serious accidents and life-threatening emergencies".
It also advised that "where the situation is not life-threatening, alternative support will be available through NHS111 online or by calling 111."
