Suzanne Llewellyn, the Crown Prosecution Service’s (CPS) East Midlands chief prosecutor, said the charge relates to an alleged plan to commit the act, which was discovered on a visit to Iraq.

“The Crown Prosecution Service reminds all concerned that criminal proceedings are active and the defendant has a right to a fair trial,” she added.

The CPS said the victim was under the age of 10 at the time of the offence, but released no other details.
