Aurora Borealis: 15 of the best reader photos show the Northern Lights shining bright over Nottinghamshire

The county was treated to its best Northern Lights display in 21 years!

Stunning photos have shown the Northern Lights shining bright over Nottinghamshire after the county was treated to a spectacular display over the weekend.

Vibrant streaks of pink, blue and green could be seen after nightfall on Friday (May 10) thanks to a strong geomagnetic storm hitting earth.

The storm was the strongest since 2003, with the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) issuing a rare G5 Extreme Solar Storm warning.

Millions of people across the UK were able to see the lights, including those in built-up areas.

But it was sky-gazers in rural spots who were afforded the best view of the lights, with little light pollution getting in the way of the rare display.

Hundreds of Nottingham World readers shared some truly breathtaking photos from last Friday’s Northern Lights display.

We’ve picked out 15 of the best reader-submitted snaps of the Aurora Borealis shining bright over Nottinghamshire.
