With Nottingham being home to the UK’s oldest pub, it’s hardly surprising that the city ranks so highly

Nottingham is the joint-cheapest city in the UK for a bottle of beer, according to a new study. 

Fresh data sourced by Magnet Kitchens has found that the city, along with East Midlands neighbour Coventry, is the cheapest place in the country to buy a bottle of beer.

The study, which analysed 190 cities worldwide using crowdsourced data from Numbeo, looked at the cost of beer in 2024.

According to the data, the average cost for a bottle of beer in both Nottingham and Coventry is just £1.63. 

For comparison, the average price of a bottle of beer in the UK as a whole was found to be £1.98. 

Kingston upon Hull was found to be the second-cheapest place in the UK, with an average of £1.65.

The new study analysed 190 cities globally, and the average price for beer worldwide was found to be £1.76, placing the UK just above average with an average price of £1.98.

The study found the cheapest city in the world for beer to be located in Italy, in the city of Taranto, where a beer can be found for just £0.65- yes you would get change from a pound coin. 

It also concluded that the most expensive city in the world is Darwin, in the Northern Territory of Australia, where a pint could cost you £7.48.
