Nottingham transport operator NET has confirmed that it is preparing to unveil a tram in honour of the Lioness, who was awarded the Golden Glove at this year’s FIFA Women’s World Cup.

In the tradition of naming trams after past and present Nottingham legends, Earps’ name will appear on the side of a city tram, joining renowned figures including actor Vicky McClure and author D H Lawrence.

Earps, who keeps goal for Manchester United in the Women’s Super League and was born in West Bridgford, played a pivotal role in the Lionesses’ World Cup campaign, saving a penalty in the final against Spain.

Among numerous accolades in her career, Earps was honoured with the Best FIFA Women's Goalkeeper award in 2022.

NET head of marketing Alison Sweeney said: “Like lots of people in Nottingham, we're incredibly proud of the efforts of Mary Earps and her fellow Lionesses at this year's FIFA Women's World Cup.

“We think it's a great idea to rename a tram after Mary and after reaching out to her team, we are now working to make it happen. We will update the people of Nottingham as soon as we can.

“In the future, to ensure our trams remain representative of all the local heroes in the area, we're currently reviewing our tram renaming process and will reveal more information about our plans in due course.”

In August 2022 two murals dedicated to Earps were unveiled around the city. The first is located close to the tram stop at Nottingham Railway Station, and the other is at Lady Bay Bridge.

Arsenal are reported to be interested in signing Earps from Manchester United, for what could be a world record fee.
