Frost, fog and ice are all on the long-range weather forecast for January

The New Year is officially upon us bringing with it high hopes for the next 365 days. January is a month of fresh beginnings, fresh air, and resolutions.

The Met Office has released its long-range weather forecast for January, and the outlook is frosty.

According to forecasters, January will start with below-average temperatures with some night-time frosts. The Met Office says weather in the midlands is likely to remain 'fine' for several days at the start of the month.

As January progresses there is an increased risk of frost and fog says the Met Office. Bringing with it below-average temperatures and the threat of winter hazards such as snow and ice.

Currently (at the time of writing) the chance of widespread severe cold is still deemed low by the Met Office, but the risk of impacts from cold, ice, and snow is greater than normal.

The weather site also suggests there will be between three and eight days of rainfall in the month, so carrying an umbrella with you is a good idea.
