One of the world’s best racehorses will warm up for his historic bid for global stardom with a shock appearance at Southwell racecourse.

City of Troy, who has completed the remarkable treble of winning the Derby, Eclipse and Juddmonte International this summer, will be welcomed by thousands of fans when he takes part in a public gallop at the Nottinghamshire track on September 20.

Trainer Aidan OBrien will fly his stable flag bearer to the track, which will be specially fitted with America style starting stalls before he jets off to compete in the Breeders’ Cup Classic in California this November.

O’Brien, widely regarded as the greatest trainer in the world, is based in Ireland, but has picked Southwell as the perfect place for City of Troy to prepare for the test that awaits him in America.

The racecourse will open its doors to fans and media to witness the historic gallop, with racegoers from across the country expected to come for a glimpse of their hero.

Multiple champion jockey Ryan Moore is expected to partner his ride in the workout.
