Five of the best parks in Nottingham to go for a walk
Living in a city can often leave one searching for nature, we list some of the best parks in Nottingham as the weather continues to improve
Nottingham, like many cities up and down the country, has a series of parks maintained by the council and open to the public to use for free. The weather is set to be scorching, especially over the bank holiday weekend as we head into June.
With summer fast approaching and the weather finally starting to turn for the better, parks offer something different from the hustle and bustle of the city.
Here are our top five parks in Nottingham:
1. Forest Recreation Ground:
Located to the North of the city centre, the park offers a wide open green area, perfect for picnics and sunbathers alike.
Dogs are welcome in certain areas so long as they are kept under control. The park is most well-known for the Goose Fair, which is held annually in the park.
Visitors do not need to worry as there is on-site parking, and those travelling by tram do not need to walk far either as it stops close to the entrance.
2. Woodthorpe Grange Park:
This park is the furthest from the city centre, but do not let that put you off.
Upon arrival, you will see the main attraction, The Grange. This 19 th century building is a Grade Two listed building and currently hosts the council's department of Leisure and Community Services.
The park slopes downhill from The Grange revealing an outstanding view of the city. For the history buffs, the park is surrounded by the old Nottingham Suburban Railway and you can still see the tunnels that the trains used.
3. Colwick Country Park:
If you like looking at peaceful lakes, then this is the park for you. Host to two lakes, the park has a weekly 5km park run every Saturday morning.
Popular with walkers, the site is dog friendly and a great example of the well-maintained parks in Nottingham.
4. Nottingham Arboretum:
Located close to the NTU campus, this park is popular among students. The Arboretum is the oldest park on the list, having been opened in 1852.
With plenty of trees for cover, there are green areas to relax on. There is also a small aviary with pet birds donated by their owners, located next to a small lake at the entrance to the park.
5. Highfields Park:
Sitting next to the University of Nottingham, the park is stunning. The park has wide open green spaces, perfect for hanging out with friends.
Unlike other entries on this list, it has a boating lake and adventure golf. With activities like these, this park tops the list as the best park in Nottingham and perfect for a sunny day.
