The man’s injuries are not thought to be life-threatening and he has been bailed while police inquiries continue.

The dog, believed to be an XL Bully type, was seized from a nearby flat and remains in secure kennels.

A woman also remains in hospital after, it is believed, she fell from a flat window where the attack began and suffered non-life-threatening injuries to her body.

A second woman, 24, who was not injured in the attack, was also arrested on suspicion of allowing a dog to be dangerously out of control. She has since been released on bail.

Following the attack, a further two victims were identified. One man suffered wounds to his head and body and was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Another man suffered an injury to his arm but is thought to have declined medical treatment.

In September, Prime Minister Rishi Sunak announced the Government would ban XL Bully dogs, following a series of attacks and deaths linked to the breed.

From February 1, 2024, the American Bully XL will be added to the list of banned dogs in England and Wales where it will be illegal to own one unless the owner has an exemption.
