Two suspects arrested after burglary attempt foiled by police

Officers who were called to Arnold Road, Old Basford, interrupted an attempted break-in and arrested two suspects following a foot-chase

After arriving at the scene at around 9.05pm on Wednesday July 19, a padlock to the compound was found to have been cut off but the gate remained closed.

Two suspects were then spotted leaving the site via a different gate, running in the direction of Fenton Road, after officers searched the site with the help of the Operational Support team.

Chief Inspector Chris Pearson, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “This was a great example of our teams – in this case officers from response and Operational Support – working together to get a positive result.”

A further search around the business site then led to a van being discovered with the engine still running, containing an angle grinder in the footwell which was found to have been reported stolen from the South Yorkshire region.

Inspector Pearson said: “Thanks to the alertness of our officers, we were ultimately able to disrupt a potential burglary, arrest two suspects, and recover a stolen vehicle in the process.”

A 36-year-old man and a 16-year-old boy were both subsequently arrested on suspicion of attempted burglary and theft of a motor vehicle.

Inspector Pearson added: “Commercial break-ins like the one we attended here can have a hugely detrimental impact on people’s livelihoods and are completely unacceptable, so we’re pleased to have been able to stop this from happening.

“Our inquiries are still ongoing into this incident, so we’d ask anyone with information to call the police on 101, quoting incident 760 of 19 July 2023, or Crimestoppers where information can be reported anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
