Eastwood: Central Co-op to close Nottinghamshire store - but new owners are already confirmed

It’s one of 19 earmarked for closure

A Central Co-op store in Nottinghamshire is one of 19 across the Midlands to be earmarked for closure.

The shop, in Nottingham Road, Eastwood, is to shut its doors over the coming months following a review of the business’s portfolio.

According to The Sun, the 19 stores had become “financially unsustainable”.

But it’s not all bad news for shoppers, with 16 of the sites being sold to Samy LTD and the other three to B&M.

Based in Middlesbrough, Samy LTD operates Budgens, Spar, Londis and Premier shops across England.

Central Co-op is reportedly confident that staff working in affected areas will be offered new roles as part of the sales process.

A Central Co-op spokesperson said: “Following a full review of our trading estate, we've made the difficult decision to transfer the Eastwood, Nottingham Road store to Samy Limited.

“We expect the store will continue to trade into the New Year.”
