Bean the cat safely reunited with owner after three days stuck in tree

A cat has been rescued from a 30ft tree by firefighters and the RSPCA after it became stuck for three days.

Bean, a male tabby and white cat, was stuck up a tall copse of trees off Landmere Gardens, in the Mapperley area, in Nottingham on October 9.

RSPCA inspector Annette Della-Porta was called after Bean’s owners were unable to coax him down from the tree.

"I looked up and saw the poor cat about 30ft up a very tall tree and thought there’s no way I can get up that far," she said.

Ms Della-Porta tried “all sorts” to get Bean to come down, including bringing his brother to the scene, however, “they meowed at each other a lot but the poor cat was frozen solid - he was so scared”.

Eventually, Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service arrived with a nine-metre ladder to reach the stranded pet, which scurried even further up the tree as the ladder was put in place.

'A very well-loved cat!'

The firefighters were able to bring Bean down safely where he was checked over and described as “totally fine” and only a little dehydrated from being stuck for a few days.

Ms Della-Porta added: “I’m so glad this rescue had a happy ending - it’s a great reminder of what we can achieve together for animal welfare.

“We were able to reunite this puss with his grateful owner. Everyone was in tears when we got him down. Bean is clearly a very well-loved cat!”

The RSPCA said in the vast majority of cases pet cats are very capable of getting themselves down from a tree.

Owners should use strong-smelling food, like fish, to coax their pet down and call for help after 24 hours if that does not work.
