According to the research, November 23 is the quietest day to fly from EMA, with only 73 flights estimated to have departed that day in 2024.

Given that 43,850 flights took off from EMA last year, averaging 120 flights per day, this means that 23 November saw 39% fewer flights than average.

The analysis revealed that February is the best month overall to fly from East Midlands Airport for a smoother journey.

Last year, an estimated 2,535 flights left the airport in February, 31% less than the average month (3,654).

By contrast, the busiest day for EMA in 2024 was July 15, when 157 flights departed.

That’s 31% more than the average day, showing the increase during peak travel times.

Rhys Jones, travel expert at Go.Compare, said: “For those flying from the East Midlands, timing your trip well could make all the difference.

“Choose to travel during quieter periods, like the end of November or February, and you could see shorter queues and a more relaxed start to your trip.

“Flying out on a Saturday, when the airport is surprisingly less busy than other days of the week, could also be a hack for avoiding the crowds.

“If you do want to travel at peak times, like mid-July for example, planning ahead is essential to keep stress at bay. Arriving early, packing light, and checking in online can help make even the busiest travel days smoother.

“And, of course, don’t forget travel insurance. It’s invaluable no matter when you fly, offering you protection against any unexpected delays or disruptions.”
