Today (March 21) we’re celebrating the life of Brian Clough on what would’ve been his 89th birthday.
After unsuccessful managerial spells with Leeds United and Brighton and Hove Albion, Clough joined Nottingham Forest in 1975.
During his 18 years at the City Ground, Clough - alongside trusted assistant Peter Taylor - led Forest to unprecedented success.
His side won the First Division Championship in 1978, followed by two consecutive European Cup wins in 1979 and 1980.
Clough’s achievements at Forest are considered some of the greatest managerial feats in the English Football League's history to date.
His time in the East Midlands came to a sad end in 1993, as Forest was relegated from the inaugural Premiership.
On September 20, 2004, Clough died of stomach cancer in Derby City Hospital.
A memorial service at Derby County’s Pride Park stadium was attended by thousands of Forest and Derby fans as rivalries were set aside to honour the great man.
On what would’ve been his 89th birthday, we’ve taken a look back at Clough’s 18-year Forest career.
