A 46 year old man tried to escape arrest by entering a barber shop for a haircut. This is despite the fact the man, known by police as a proflific shoplifter, had ‘no hair on his head.’

Nottinghamshire Police say their officers noticed one of the city’s most notorious retail thieves ‘acting shady’ when he spotted their vehicle patrolling the city.

Suspicions were raised when the hairless man instantly ducked into a barber shop on Radford Road with his shopping bag.

Officers then escorted the 46-year-old out of the barbers for questioning. He admitted to stealing 16 bottles from Boots in Beeston on March 25th and was interviewed for shoplifting offences.

“He really chose the wrong place to hide from police”, said Sergeant Jonathan Pothecary, who leads Operation Compass.

Operation Compass is a team of plain-clothed and uniformed officers who team up to tackle crime in the city centre and allows police to observe criminals without being noticed. Working out of plain sight, the operation has already made 130 arrests this year.

In a statement, Sergeant Pothecary said: “It’s important for the public to know that just because you can’t always see us does not mean we aren’t there”
