Tiny Nottinghamshire village ‘where time slows down’ is a must-visit for its award-winning farm shop
The village is home to just under 400 people
With nearly 250 villages scattered across Nottinghamshire, you could quite easily spend a year exploring each and every one of them.
Of course, many of our county’s villages share similarities such as beautiful countryside, centuries-old pubs and historic cricket clubs, but each of them is unique.
With autumn now here and the summer holidays having passed, it’s fair to say that Nottinghamshire’s most popular villages - namely Burton Joyce and Edwinstowe - should start quieting down a bit.
Autumn is the perfect time to spend a day exploring one of Nottinghamshire’s charming villages, particularly if you fancy yourself as a photographer.
As the leaves start to fall and change colour, the rural beauty of our county’s villages well and truly comes to the fore.
Given that many such villages are sometimes only home to a couple of hundred people, it’s understandable that they’re often overlooked.
Today we’re going to take a look at a village which may be tiny, but boasts an award-winning farm shop.
The award-winning Maxey’s Farm Shop in Kirklington
Nestled a couple of miles east of Farnsfield, the small village of Kirklington is only home to just under 400 people.
The main road running through Kirklington, Southwell Road, is flanked by the type of lavish homes you’d expect to see in a quaint Nottinghamshire village.

Flowing through the village is the River Greet, which eventually meets the River Trent at Fiskerton.
Surrounding Kirklington is acres of idyllic countryside, with some visitors deciding to park up in the village and spend a few hours rambling.
Food for a picnic while exploring the nearby countryside can be sourced at the nearby Maxey’s Farm Shop.

Located just along the A617, the farm shop boasts a deli, butchery and kitchen.
The farm shop has gone from strength to strength since opening in 2012 by selling quality local produce, having been shortlisted for the Muddy Stilettos Award for Best Farm Shop/Deli earlier this year.
If you fancy refuelling before spending time exploring Kirklington, the farm shop’s kitchen serves hot food daily between 9am and 3pm.
