For anyone who grew up in Nottingham between the mid 1970s to early 2010s, spending hours upon hours in the Broadmarsh Shopping Centre was a rite of passage.
Broadmarsh was opened in 1975 and contained many of the popular shops and restaurants at the time, including BHS and Wimpy.
Sadly the Broadmarsh story ended abruptly in 2020 when its then owner, Intu, went into administration.
The 20-acre site was subsequently handed to Nottingham City Council and demolished at a cost of £8 million a year later.
Since then, the government has rejected three levelling up bids to press ahead with the Broad Marsh Green Heart project.
Almost three years after Broadmarsh was demolished, its former site remains empty.
But to celebrate 49 years since the shopping centre first opened its doors, we’re taking a trip down memory lane and remembering its heyday.
We’ve dug out five heartwarming photos of Broadmarsh back in the good old days.

Here again we have Broadmarsh at Christmas, this time in 2013. Sadly, shoppers would have just six more Christmases to use the shopping centre after 2013. | David Skinner/Flickr Photo: David Skinner/Flickr
