Many of those arriving here in the county are instantly stuck by its natural beauty - and understandably so.

If you’re someone who enjoys long walks in the countryside, now is the perfect time to dust your walking boots off and get out there exploring.

There are many picturesque places to go for a stroll, but one route in particular which takes in an abandoned railway line and former colliery is a great place to kick things off.

Teversal Trails circular walk

The Teversal Trails route on the Nottinghamshire-Derbyshire border is a circular walk which follows former railway lines, the last of which closed in 1978.

Since the final railway closure, the expansion of nature on the trails has come to support a mosaic of habitats including calcareous grassland communities.

Part of the route takes in a former colliery site, meaning those embarking on the trail can truly appreciate the history of the area.

The circular route clocks in at 3.75 miles in total, with dogs welcome on a lead.

The full route can be found here.
