'Hidden gem' Nottinghamshire farm shop that’s 'just a shed' is like something from the 1950s
The farm shop stocks all kinds of fresh, local produce
If healthy eating is top of your agenda in 2026, you might find yourself shopping in one of Nottinghamshire’s many farm shops at some point.
Supermarkets dominate the industry - and probably always will - but in recent years there has been a shift in the way some of us shop for food.
These days we’re so conscious about what goes into our food and then into our stomachs, which is why farm shops have experienced something of a comeback.
Much of the produce sold in farm shops can be traced directly back to source, meaning consumers know exactly where it’s come from.
It’s often the case that farm shops sell produce grown on their own farms, only increasing its quality.
Nottinghamshire is home to many highly rated farm shops, and you’ve probably heard of the bigger ones even if you haven’t paid them a visit.
There are plenty more farm shops scattered across the county that might not operate from a purpose-built building, but still offer fresh local produce at reasonable prices.
Why The New Holbeck Hut is one of Nottinghamshire’s most underrated farm shops
Located in the tiny village of Halam, near Southwell, the suitably-named New Holbeck Hut certainly isn’t on the same scale as some of Nottinghamshire’s other farm shops.
The shop itself comprises two medium-sized wooden huts; the same type you’d have in your garden.

Putting its size to one side, the farm shop stocks pretty much everything you’d expect it to.
From fresh locally-sourced vegetables to tasty baked treats, the shop’s diminutive size certainly doesn’t limit its ability to operate as a bona fide farm shop.
Those visiting the New Holbeck Hut can also warm up with a hot drink from the self-service drinks machine - ideal for those chilly January days!
It’s worth pointing out that the New Holbeck Hut operates as an honesty shop, with no members of staff constantly on-site.
The upside of this is that the shop remains open 365 days of the year, between 7am and 6pm.
Both cash and card payments are accepted at the shop.
