Today (Friday, March 21) would have been the great Brian Clough’s 90th birthday.
Born on March 21, 1935, in Middlesbrough, Clough went on to forge a successful career as a striker for his hometown club.
After retiring in 1964, following a three-year stint with Sunderland, Clough moved into management with Hartlepool United.
A successful six-year spell at Derby County was followed by failed moves to Brighton and Hove Albion and Leeds United.
Then, in 1975, the history of Nottingham Forest was changed forever as Clough moved to the City Ground.
Clough went on to achieve unprecedented success with Forest, most notably leading the club to two European Cups.
As we all know, the great man was always good value when it came to providing one-liners.
To mark what would have been his 90th birthday, we’ve picked out 13 of Clough’s best quotes from his time at Forest.
