Pasta Evangelists launches in Nottingham with new menu ready for delivery. We put the pasta to the test to see if its as good as they claim

There are few things I love more in this world but pasta is up there for me. There is a lot to be said about it as one of the very best comfort foods, especially when you are sick or down. So when I heard Pasta Evangelists were launching in Nottingham, I was delighted to give it a spin using a code.

I encountered the brand a few years ago when I lived in Beeston and decided to have some of their pre-made pasta meals sent to me. It was ‘quite the week’ of mouthwatering Italian dishes the like of which I could never have made myself. I lived in Italy for a year as well, so I have become a bit irritated when it comes to passing judgement on pasta. I know what I like and I know when it’s made well.

So being invited to try the delivery service was a godsend on a day when I was home from work ill and feeling a bit sorry for myself. Pasta Evangelists have made the food available through apps such as Deliveroo, UberEats and JustEat. The menu is impressive boasting dishes such as the ‘carbonara of dreams’ to beef shin and Barolo ragu to Italian lager.

However, it was the truffle mac & cheese that caught my eye as I fell in love with truffles when I lived in Foligno. I moved from the Midlands of the UK to the Midlands of Italy to a region, Umbria, where truffles are plentiful. I teamed the mac & cheese with a burrata to start with and, while I was at it, I ordered a salted caramel ice cream. I know, I know, but go hard or go home right?

Nottingham is just one of forty locations for the brand which started their new takeaway service with a single unit in East London with Deliveroo as a partner. As part of the move into the city, customers can get 25% off for a limited period too. As well as food, you can also order a cookbook through the app.

The ordering was simple, easy and incredibly quick to arrive at the front door. Too often I have a battle where my food takes longer than it should to arrive so I was impressed to note the speed of the delivery.

But let’s get to the most important part - how good was the food?

I’ve never been one for doing things in the right order, so I decided to start with my main, finish with my starter and dive into dessert at a later point in the evening. Let’s face it, the intoxicating smell of freshly made truffle-laced pasta in a warm takeaway bag was more than I could bear so I got stuck in.

The pasta was the perfect combination of soft, gooey cheese with a crispy caramelised topping with just the right amount of truffle. Too much and its overpowering, too little and its bland. This was impossible to put down. The burrata posed a simular issue when I started it, fresh tomato sauce around a ball of buffalo mozzarella with tiny basil leaves and a strong dollop of pesto balanced on top. There was nothing more I could have wanted but the site does allow you to add prawns, pine nuts or hazelnuts to the top of the mac n cheese should you want to.

I’m veggie so I was pleased to note a vegan section on the site where you have a few different options such as sundried tomato, and almond pasta where you can even select which shape of pasta they use.

Dishes average around £7.50 to £11.95 for a main with starters averaging about £3.25 for Nocellara olives to £4.25 for crostini dippers. Our truffle mac n cheese came to £11.50 while our burratta was £6.25.
