The ‘hidden gem’ and ‘old-school’ Italian restaurant tucked away in tiny Nottinghamshire village
It’s been lauded as Nottinghamshire’s best Italian restaurant
Here in Nottinghamshire we’re lucky to have hundreds of highly-rated restaurants serving cuisines from across the world.

Whether you’re after some authentic Indian street food or a juicy burger and loaded fries, there are plenty of options to choose from in all corners of the county.
One of the most popular options for eating out has always been an Italian restaurant, particularly if your party includes someone who isn’t overly adventurous when it comes to food.
Italy has long been known for its delicious food, from the thousands of pasta dishes to traditional oak-fired Neapolitan pizza.
A couple of weeks ago, as part of National World’s Food and Drink Month, we at Nottingham World asked you, our readers, to nominate your favourite Italian restaurants in the county.
Our request resulted in hundreds of nominations, but it’s fair to say that one place in particular appeared more than most.
The overwhelming consensus from readers was that the Carpenters Arms Italian Kitchen in Walesby, near Ollerton, serves Nottinghamshire’s best Italian dishes.
Despite only opening its doors in March 2022, the restaurant has quickly earned a reputation for serving tasty and authentic Italian food.

The restaurant was opened by John and Louise Boddice alongside friend Christian Colareti, who is originally from Rome.
The Carpenters Arms vibrant menu boasts all kinds of pasta dishes, all of which are presented in Italian with the ingredients in English underneath.
As with any Italian restaurant worth its salt, those with a sweet tooth can indulge in a number of dolce (desserts) after their secondi (main course).
Having earned a loyal customer base over the past two-and-a-half years, it’s fair to say that the Carpenters Arms is now one of Nottinghamshire’s top Italian restaurants.
With a seriously impressive TripAdvisor rating of 5/5 from 259 reviews, it’s no surprise that the restaurant has earned a glowing reputation in such a small space of time.
One recent customer told TripAdvisor: “Hidden little gem, easily passed. Food made with love and quality ingredients.
“The staff were happy, chatty and knowledgeable about the food. Lunch time menu is a steal!”
Another raved: “Pub building with amazing Italian chefs! Traditional Italian food cooked well and extremely generous portions.
“Excellent service from a dedicated and friendly group of staff A must visit if you like Italian food!”
