Here at Nottingham World, we love going out to eat. We love the buzz of a busy restaurant and the fact we don’t have to wash up.

But if you’ve got specific dietary requirements, it’s not as easy as walking into any random restaurant on the street.

That said, gone are the days when all vegetarians and vegans could expect when dining out were soups and boring salads.

With so many people opting for a plant-based, vegetarian, or vegan diet, the choices are now endless - especially in Nottingham.

So we’ve come up with a useful guide to the city restaurants that serve the best veggie and vegan food.

Vegan food no longer has to be boring as No. Twelve is an award-winning, plant-based restaurant, set in the heart of Nottingham and a firm favourite among vegans who like a taste of the finer things in life.

They offer a classic menu, consisting of small plates, designed to be shared with friends and a tasting menu, made up of seven courses with wine paired to match. With sharing plates and tapas options, including katsu and cauliflower dumplings, mushroom and port parfait and Parmentier potatoes to enjoy, you’ll be fighting over who gets the last nibble.

After all those delicious finger-linking delicacies you can have a peep at their dessert menu too. Think treacle tart, matcha, lime mascarpone and gelato and you can be sure your sweet tooth will be satisfied.

They make ethical choices whenever possible. Staff, family and friends regularly supply ingredients from their own gardens or allotments, drinks are all organic and vegan friendly and their organic coffee beans are roasted by a local supplier.

Prickly Pear is an ideal choice if you are in the mood for vegetarian cuisine. Sometimes you crave light bites and nibbles and, other times, you just want a filling feast. Reviewers are raving about this local Nottingham hotspot and, after looking at their menu, it is not hard to see why.

If you are feeling peckish then opt for one of their scrumptious burgers. Whether you opt for a green hemp and herb burger, topped with guacamole or choose the Southern fried seitan patty with a BBQ glaze, you are sure to be delighted.

If you feel tempted by tacos, the ‘fish-ish’ taco with beer-battered tofu is the stuff of veggie dreams. They also do a fantastic brunch option if you want a hangover-beating breakfast that will cure that morning-after headache. A breakfast burrito or a full english with fresh salsa, avocado and veggie sausages should leave you fighting fit for the day.
