I stayed in a cute Derbyshire country inn - and felt like I was in ‘The Holiday’

The Holiday is a firm festive favourite and Christmas cult classic. So when I was researching places to stay for a work trip, with that film firmly in my mind, I was immediately drawn to The Ashford Arms.

Located one hour away from Derby, the country pub with rooms was an enticing option for me to stay.

Not only because of the location, as it was not too far from Chatsworth where I had to work - but also due to the website pictures making it look super cosy.

Although check-in was at 3pm, I hunkered down in the lounge area to write my article at around 2pm. Writing by a cosy log fire is one of my favourite things to do, so that was one of my highlights from the trip.

We stayed in the Harris Room, which was so cosy, it felt like it was giving me a giant hug.

I know rooms can’t hug people, but that’s what it honestly felt like.

Carpet underfoot, a warm room, stone cottage vibes and a cute bathroom are just a few features that stood out to me, and which made me feel as if I was staying in Iris’ country bolt-hole cottage.

The bed itself was so comfortable, it was the perfect lounging space.

One thing to mention is the noise.

Our room was above the kitchen, therefore the extractor fan noise felt disruptive and not as relaxing as I would have hoped. Once the kitchen and bar closed, it felt a little more peaceful.

If you are going to be staying here and need quiet, it may be worth calling the hotel to see if you can be placed in a quieter room.

Overall I liked my stay at The Ashford Arms. A hat-tip to chefs for a delightful cooked breakfast and granola bowl with warm compote.

A stay in a deluxe double room including breakfast for two cost £116.
