Patient-led art transforms spaces at Nottinghamshire care service

Three murals have transformed key areas at Cygnet Manor, bringing colour and life to spaces at the service, which supports men with learning disabilities.
The artwork, created by local artist Anna Wheelhouse, represents true co-production in action.
During community meetings, individuals supported at the Cygnet Health Care service, in Shirebrook, identified areas that would benefit from artwork and took an active role in selecting designs from Anna’s portfolio.
Head of Care Mellissa Greenwood explains: “Our patients have been involved throughout the entire process. We printed lots of different designs from Anna’s web-page and our patients chose which ones they wanted and where they should be placed.

"Involving patients in decisions about their environment can create meaningful, personalised spaces that can aid in recovery, and the people we support have expressed how delighted they are with the results."
Cygnet Manor, on Central Drive, Shirebrook, is a 20-bed, high dependency complex care service for men with learning disabilities.
