Nottingham synchronised skating team achieves record score for great britain in world championships

The competition, held in Gothenburg, Sweden, featured top ice skating teams from North America, Europe, Asia and Australasia.

The achievement caps a year of successes for the team this season, during which they broke British records three times and became British Champions in January for the first time in three years.

Trained by coaches Esther Morris, Lauren Kelly and Louise Alvey, the team comprises skaters aged 15 to 19. They perform two programmes, a short and a free, incorporating various compulsory elements, such as lifts, synchronised spins and jumps.

Esther said: “This amazing result is testimony to the incredible hard work of the skaters this season. They have developed their skills and risen to all the challenges we have set for them. I couldn’t be more proud.”

Lauren added: “This achievement is very well deserved by the team. As well as meeting a demanding weekly team training schedule, they also practise individually to ensure their skating is at the highest standards, leading to the record score they achieved in this World Championships.”

The team will be performing their record-breaking routines one final time at a gala this Saturday, 15 March, 11am-12.15pm, at the National Ice Centre, along with sister team Icicles Senior, who will be performing their routines for the last time before departing for the World Synchronised Skating Championships on April 4-5 in Helsinki.

Also performing at the gala, which is free for the public to attend, will be the club’s other teams. Six of the eight teams have broken British records in their categories this season.

Chair of the club Lisa Walker said: “I hope people will come along on Saturday and see how fabulous synchronised skating is. The gala will showcase all the teams’ wonderful routines, and will be a real celebration of a stunning season for the club.”
